I’ve been fortunate enough that my career has taken me all over the world to capture weddings in some incredible places. But where I actually live, in the beautiful Roman city of Chester, I very rarely get to shoot, so when Nina & Konrad got in touch last year to book in for a 1 hour photoshoot in the city I was made up and have been looking forward to it since the start of the year. The couple got legally married earlier that morning in an intimate ceremony over in Wrexham and wanted some nice shots in their outfits before heading off for a meal at nearby Shrub. As I only had an hour to work with, we decided to start off with a quick walk around Chester Cathedral to take in the Museum of the Moon exhibition before heading down through Godstall Lane and down the high street with the famous Chester clock as our backdrop. I wanted to lean into some more editorial images and shoot some flash for these so I took the couple to Abbey Square, a nearby hidden gem of cobbled streets and vibrant town houses and got everything I needed in a few minutes. It isn’t always this easy to get plenty of great shorts on a tight schedule but these two were so comfortable with each other that I just stepped back and let them be and caught all the magic in the moments between them. When I posted some of these images to Instagram I did get a few messages along the lines of “OH MY GOD I FOLLOW THE BRIDE ON TIK TOK, SHE’S AMAZING!”, and yes in case you were wondering why you recognise her too she is better known as Nina.Nation on Tik-Tok and she makes fantastic videos all about the greatest thing in life which is of course food.
With about 5 minutes left I took them both to nearby King Street which is another London townhouse esque filled Chester gem and got some final shots before we wrapped up back where we started one hour later. The result was an intimate little wedding gallery for them both with over 100 final shots. I did also shoot a handful on my point and shoot 35mm so I’ll add those once that particular roll makes it back from the lab as well. If you’re having a small wedding in Chester, at the Town Hall or elsewhere and want some memorable portraits to look back on then I am quite ready for more home based adventures.
If you’re getting married and you like my work then I would love to chat, get in touch here.
