Couples choose the micro wedding route for all types of reasons, and all of them are valid as you should always have your day your way. For Mitch & Poppy, this was part 1 of their wedding celebrations, ‘The Legal Bit’ if you will, as they were heading to Italy the following week for the main event. For their London leg it was looking like a quick stroll around Chelsea with their excellent pooch Hugo, a short ceremony at Chelsea Town Hall with their nearest and dearest and then lunch down the road at The Ivy Chelsea Garden. And for me 2 hours to capture it all into a mini wedding album to keep the couple going until their Italian leg. We headed to some of their favourite nearby spots and I kept things candid for the portraits as these two needed absolutely no direction in looking comfortable and in love together on camera. When we arrived at Chelsea Town Hall their family were waiting with smiles and hugs in adundance and then we all headed inside. I stuck to one camera and lens and had a smal film camera around my neck to finish off a roll from the day before as well as it would be rude not to. Afterwards we captured some confetti magic on those famous Town Hall steps before a few final portraits on the way to The Ivy and once the cake was cut and dinner was underway, I was off as well to eagerly start editing a few images on the train.

I love capturing weddings like this and the challenge of telling the story of a day within such a short period of time. It makes me think on my feet and having to be creative on the spot to make the most of your space and time is what keeps my skills evolving in wedding photography. And right in the middle of a busy wedding season full of epic events and long days, sometimes multiple day destination weddings, this was the perfect palate cleanser and a real pleasure to capture not only in beautiful London but stunning Chelsea itself.
